MANILA, Philippines – College of St. Benilde went on a 14-0 blitz to push past Lyceum, 70-61, Monday in the men’s basketball tournament of the NCAA Season 88 at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
Carlo Lastimosa scored majority of his game-high 14 points during that pivotal stretch where the Blazers turned a six-point deficit to a 65-57 gap with 4:26 left.
“They were too anxious, too eager. We really failed defensively. Our defense was bad for the first three quarters,” said CSB head coach Richard del Rosario.
The Pirates seemed on track to pull away when they led 57-51 on a Shane Ko basket.
“(But) when we were able to lockdown defensively and limit them to just eight points in the fourth quarter, that spelled the difference in this game,” Del Rosario added.
Lastimosa added six rebounds and six assists.
Lyceum leaned on Chris Cayabyab but the sharpshooter struggled with just 13 points on four-of-17 shooting from the field. Read more NCAA news here.
